Yes, Salesforce did acquire Intercom. It agreed on 15 June 2026 to acquire Fin, the company formerly called Intercom, “for approximately $3.6 billion” (June release), and completed on 10 September 2026. Salesforce says that “as part of Salesforce’s AI Labs, Fin will continue to serve its customers”. Intercom’s Salesforce app is a separate thing.
Did Salesforce acquire Intercom?
Yes. Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on 15 June 2026 to buy Fin, the company formerly called Intercom, and completed the purchase on 10 September 2026. Fin now sits within Salesforce’s AI Labs and, in Salesforce’s words, “will continue to serve its customers”. The Intercom name lives on as Fin’s help desk.
Intercom (now Fin) renamed the whole company after its agent earlier in 2026. For what Fin is and how it works, see our Fin guide; this page covers the deal only.
Searches for “intercom salesforce” mix two different things: the acquisition, and Intercom’s own Salesforce integration app. We separate them below. Facts are as of October 2026 and come from Salesforce’s releases and Intercom’s help articles.
What is the Intercom acquisition?
The Intercom acquisition is Salesforce’s purchase of Fin, the company formerly called Intercom, which put it under Salesforce’s AI Labs. It is a change of ownership, which by itself changes nothing in your Intercom setup. The timeline below gives the dates and wording.
When did the Intercom acquisition happen?
Salesforce expected to close in its fiscal 2027 fourth quarter, and it completed earlier than that. The table gives each step’s wording and its source, so you can see exactly what was and was not said.
| Date | Event | Exact wording | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2026 | Intercom renames the company Fin | ”In May 2026 they renamed the whole company Fin, after the agent.” | SaaStr |
| 15 June 2026 | Definitive agreement signed | Salesforce agreed to acquire Fin, formerly Intercom, “for approximately $3.6 billion, subject to customary purchase price adjustments”; Fin’s offerings “will complement Agentforce’s deeply customizable platform” | June release |
| 15 June 2026 | Close expected | ”in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027”, subject to regulatory clearances | June release |
| 10 September 2026 | Acquisition completed | ”As part of Salesforce’s AI Labs, Fin will continue to serve its customers”; “more than 30,000 companies” | September release |
Eoghan McCabe is still named “CEO and Co-Founder of Fin” in the September release. In his signing post to customers, he wrote that “little will practically change”. That is his view, not Salesforce’s.
SaaStr’s commentary on why Salesforce bought: “The strategic logic is the model plus the customers.”
What changes for Intercom customers?
In Salesforce’s own words, “as part of Salesforce’s AI Labs, Fin will continue to serve its customers, advance its AI agent capabilities, and build market-defining AI models and technology”. It describes an established base of “more than 30,000 companies”. That is all the September release says about customers.
What the releases do not say matters as much. Neither release mentions pricing, contracts, the Intercom inbox or Service Cloud, so we make no predictions about roadmap, price or product changes.
A practical, neutral checklist for a store team:
- Note the completion date, 10 September 2026, in your records.
- Keep your current contract terms in front of you.
- Watch Fin’s changelog and your account emails for notices.
For what Fin is shipping, such as its operations agent, read our Fin Operator guide. Fin’s current prices are in our Fin guide.
How do Fin, Agentforce and Service Cloud fit together?
Salesforce presents Fin as the fast-to-deploy option next to Agentforce. At completion it said Fin sits “alongside Agentforce’s deeply customizable platform”, giving organisations a range “from rapid deployment on existing systems to deeply tailored, enterprise-scale transformation”. Marc Benioff said Fin’s technology and team will strengthen Agentforce for customer service.
The June release aims the fast path at “SMB and some commercial organizations that need to launch quickly”. We quote that as Salesforce’s stated plan, not as a forecast.
Service Cloud is not mentioned in either deal release. For where Fin and Service Cloud meet, the source is Fin’s own Salesforce page, which is undated and was read on 20 October 2026.

The page text says Fin “responds directly to cases assigned through your rules or Flows”, that Salesforce stays “your system of record” with no migration required, and that Fin’s Copilot is “embedded in Salesforce Service Cloud”. These are Fin’s own claims, quoted from the page.
Fin also runs beyond Intercom: Salesforce says it “works seamlessly with the help desks and systems companies already use”. So keeping your help desk is a choice of AI, not of inbox. Stores on Salesforce Commerce Cloud can read our guide to Commerce Cloud.
What is the Intercom Salesforce integration?
It is a separate Intercom app that connects your Intercom workspace to Salesforce CRM. It creates leads, logs conversations as tasks, creates cases and shows live Salesforce data in the inbox. It is available on the Advanced and Expert plans per Intercom’s help centre (as of October 2026). It is documented there as its own app, and neither deal release mentions it.
The table separates the deal from the two Salesforce products people confuse it with.
| What | What it is | What it touches | Plans and requirements | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The acquisition | A change of ownership of Fin | Nothing in your setup by itself | None | June and September releases |
| Intercom’s Salesforce app | CRM sync between Intercom and Salesforce | Leads, contacts, accounts, tasks and cases | Advanced and Expert plans; a Salesforce edition with API access, such as Enterprise or Unlimited | Intercom help |
| Fin for Salesforce | Fin as an AI agent on Salesforce Cases, with Copilot in Service Cloud | Salesforce Cases | Salesforce Cases and Flows, per Fin’s page | Fin |
The app’s setup article says that every time a conversation is started, a completed task is created in the Salesforce activities list. Its usage article says sync direction is yours to choose, Intercom to Salesforce or the reverse.
How the sync works, per Intercom’s help articles:
- Auto Case Creation runs from Intercom to Salesforce (usage article).
- Contacts are created or converted in Salesforce, and the app creates leads (usage article).
- Tags and events are not mapped (setup article).
Should a store stay on Intercom after the acquisition?
The deal on its own forces no move: Salesforce says Fin will keep serving customers. Fin is a polished, widely adopted agent, and it also runs on other help desks. So the real decision for a store is which AI resolves your store tickets, and you can make it without leaving the Intercom inbox.
| Situation | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Happy with the Intercom inbox | Keep the inbox, compare the AI layer on your own tickets | The inbox does not have to change for the AI to |
| Happy with the inbox, want deeper Shopify actions or several live systems in one answer | Keep Intercom, replace the AI layer | The inbox is not the problem; the AI’s reach is |
| Support already runs in Salesforce Service Cloud | Compare Fin for Salesforce and Engaige on your store work | Both work inside it |
| You rely on Intercom’s Salesforce app for CRM sync | No change needed | It is a separate app, unaffected by which AI you use |
| Weighing a full help desk move | Read our Gorgias comparison | Migration is a different decision |
Intercom is built for SaaS support; Engaige is built for the store. For a wider shortlist, see our guide to the best agents for customer service.
Where does Engaige fit?
Engaige (that’s us) is the e-commerce AI support agent that works inside the helpdesk your conversations already land in. It plugs into Intercom, now Fin and part of Salesforce, and replaces only the AI layer: keep your helpdesk, replace the AI. Engaige AI configures and improves the agent, and Otrium resolves 60% of 120,000 annual tickets end to end with Engaige, as the Otrium case shows.

Engaige reads the order, checks your policy, takes the action in Shopify (a refund, a cancellation, an address change, a replacement) and replies to the customer.
Engaige works inside Intercom and also inside Salesforce Service Cloud, so your inbox stays where it is. See how it connects in our Intercom integration and the Intercom comparison.
Control stays yours. You decide per step whether the agent acts on its own or drafts for your team, and you can set thresholds, such as sending refunds above a certain amount to a person first.
Scenario
The customer asks about a delivery address.
Instructions
Read the order with Get order , then take the branch that matches.
Scenario
The order has not been picked yet.
Instructions
Move it with Change picqer shipping address .
Scenario
The parcel has already left the warehouse.
Instructions
Say it cannot be redirected, then offer Process refund .
Engaige offered control, flexibility, and the ability to really incorporate AI in a more human way.
On Shopify, Engaige combines live Admin API data, pricing across markets and SKUs, inventory, orders and customers, with the marketing content from your storefront. Engaige AI learns from your conversations and inputs, and one of its signals is how your team’s replies differ from what the agent suggested. It proposes improvements under your supervision, and you approve every change.
Open any conversation in Engaige and you see the full reasoning behind every answer and action. You are live in Agent Assist in hours, and Engaige automates up to 90% of supported tickets.
